Our Museum

Since we moved to Indy, we have had a membership to the Children's Museum and have loved it! We often joke that we can watch our kids grow and change by noting their progression through museum pictures. I know that we will all miss our visits when we move.

Here Becca climbs the rock wall this summer. She had been waiting for a LONG time (you have to be 6 to climb) and counting down from when she was almost 5. Which in kid-years is practically forever!

Below are three pictures of Tori in the dinosaur area. Look at that baby grow!

Josh is testing out his balance. We love our museum (which is how the kids refer to it)! Clearly, after all this time of being members, they feel they have ownership privileges.

I feel like I am in the calm before the storm. Life is going to get way too busy way too soon. While we are in waiting mode, I am enjoying the time hanging with the kids at some of our favorite places. :-)

The Reaction

We told our kids a couple of weeks ago that we are likely moving to China. Now one might wonder how much a six year old and four year old would understand about moving. We have been surprised with their questions that show their insight and glimpses of understanding. Don't get me wrong, I still think that they are going to be shocked and overwhelmed by how big a change this is. But maybe these questions will help them grapple with some of them before we go. Becca (who is 6) is so excited. I heard her telling a friend that we might be moving to China, but it is just 90% certain right now. She asks us often if we are at 100% yet. Josh was quick to say, "Becca, we are just THINKING about it." Can you tell how he feels? As I was filling out the forms for their passports, Becca wondered what I was doing. Her response when I explained was, "I FINALLY get a passport! I've always wanted one of my own!" Such our adventurous one! How many 6 year olds even know what a passport is? As you could maybe tell from his comment to Becca, Josh is not at all excited about moving. I have the feeling that we will be getting on the plane and he will still be sad to leave his Colts room. As we tell him things about what life might be like, he gets momentarily excited and then says, "But I will only like a couple of things - not everything." I wonder if any move would be this upsetting to him as he prepares to leave the only house he has known.

No-Napping Turkey

Many afternoons Tori lies down and decides she does not need a nap. The reality is that if she does not nap, she will likely do one of two things later in the day -- she will either pass out in a crazy place (often at the dinner table or the middle of the floor) or she becomes a crazy chick. Here she had fallen asleep in the car on the way to a friends house and stayed asleep after carrying her in and putting her on the floor. Hmmm, do you think that she really needs a nap or not? What a turkey!

Josh (the original no-napping turkey) was quite the extreme sleeper. He could/would fall asleep just about anywhere. Check out the pictures below to see some of Josh's finest poses! Yes, he is indeed curled up on one of our kitchen chairs (this is my personal favorite).

Trip to China

After the craziness of Christmas, Andy and I left for 9 days on an exploratory trip to China. The purpose of this trip was to investigate housing, schools, and just life in general to see if this would be a good fit for our family.

Here we are being tourists in Beijing. To the left is me peeking out on the Great Wall and below Andy and I with Beijing behind us.

We are excited about the possibility of moving! We are looking at Suzhou, which is about an hour and half from Shanghai.

We're on-line?!

We are starting this space to share with family and friends our journey. All of life is a journey -- with other people, as a person and most importantly with God. I hope this documents a little bit of our journey as a family. We look to this year, knowing that we are likely moving, and want a space to connect our lives with each of you.
