Lice

Yesterday I found lice in Becca's hair. There have been several cases going around her school, but I thought that we had escaped it. Can I tell you how gross I find this whole thing? But I have been careful not to communicate that to our girlie. She has been worried about it enough ("Will I always have bugs in my hair? Are they going to hurt me? I really don't want to miss school."). So I have washed all sheets, PJs, quarantined stuffed animals, anything Becca wore recently, and have treated her. Today I found only one. So we treated it again (and washed all bedding again). We are using tea tree oil to treat it because I am leery of using chemicals bought here to put on the kiddos heads!

Just as an aside.... I hesitated blogging about the lice because somehow I feel like a bad mom that it happened. Even though I know I had no control over it. Ah, maybe one day I won't be so concerned with what others think..... (I think that I needed to blog about it as one small way of letting go. Make sense to anyone?)

  1. My dear friend, you are an amazing mom! I had lice in grade school, too. My hair was down to my lower back and mom spent HOURS treating it and painstakingly combing it out for me so I didn't have to cut it off. It is still one of my sweetest memories of how much my mom loved me.

  2. As a nurse, let me tell you how common it is! You are a great Mommy! I actually got Lice as an adult while caring for my parents foster kids when they went away on vacation. I know the joys of combing through with the little comb. I agree with you on the tea tree oil though in China- good choice! and good luck!
