A Different Set of Olympics

There has been some major Olympic-fever going on in the Wilcox household! It is hard to live here (even living far from Beijing we live about 640 miles away) and not catch a bit of the Olympic bug. We were particularly excited to find out that we had 4 channels dedicated to the games (and they are English-speaking channels). But I am sure that we are seeing different things that you are! Part of this has to do with the time difference - Beijing (and Suzhou) is 12 hours ahead of the East Coast. I read somewhere that there was a really low viewing during the Sydney games due to the time difference and that people knew what happened before they got to see it. Because of this, NBC lobbied hard for the major events (gymnastics, swimming and track) to be held in the AM here and thus prime time on the East Coast. Anyway, that was a LONG explanation to say that we are seeing quite different things than you are! I have seen only a bit of gymnastics, but thankfully we were able to see most of the swimming! But we often have quite random choices - for example, here are some of the things we have watched: weight-lifting, table tennis, badminton (yes, it is an Olympic sport), judo, equestrian, fencing, and LOTS of football (aka soccer) and basketball. My personal favorite was when our choices one Saturday evening were target shooting, judo, boxing and badminton. ;-)
