Fire-powered Flower (aka Happy Chinese Birthday to Me)

Today was my birthday and I made myself a cake (with help from the kids). We have discovered THE BEST birthday candle! From the country that invented fireworks . . .

Impressive, don't you think? Hmm, I wonder why we don't see these in the States?

The kids were in awe of the candle - understandably so!
The candle plays Happy Birthday. In fact, we have heard that it will play for 3 days (or until it drives you crazy and you take the battery out). Becca disassembled it and made the music stop.

  1. Sarah,

That candle was pretty fun - Matthew had me play the video three times. Hope you had a Happy Birthday!

We miss you too. The language difference would be so difficult for me. I think it is great that you are already learning and trying it out. You guys always inspire me!

How soon will school be starting there? Matthew starts back Aug.19. Less than two weeks! So many more things to do, I think we're going to run out of time.

We'll be thinking of you as we watch the Olympics!

    Love you,

    Janet

  2. okay, sarah, that might just be the coolest thing I've seen. I cannot even imagine how awesome that would be in person! You and Andy should ship some back to the US or wherever you move to and do some serious damage with those here!

I hope that your birthday was AWESOME!!!! If I had realized that it was right now, I would have sent a card. I still will and just extend the festivities.

Thanks for the email. I'll write back later tonight after everybody is asleep.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  4. yes, the candle is way cool! Our kids watched the video 5 or 6 times and cracked up each time. (One of the best parts of the video is our future engineer - Becca - asking how it works at the end.) :-) Yes indeed, I think a few of those might make it back with us for some friends and family birthdays!

Janet, School doesn't start until September!
