Orang Utan Sactuary

Tuesday, January 27th

Borneo is the home to the amazing orang utans. Unfortunately, the forests where they live are being torn down at an alarming rate. Because of this, many young orang utans are orphaned. These young ones are rescued and taken to sanctuaries where they are taught to live on their own. We went to one of these sanctuaries for a feeding time. It is so unlike a zoo. There are no cages separating you from the animals and no guarantees that you will see anything. We were fortunate and were able to see 3 of the 4 orang utans currently living there. At first all was quiet, then there was rustling of trees and cautiously the orang utans made their way to another platform about 15 feet from us. We stayed and watched them for about an hour. This was one of the highlights of the trip for me!

Okay I am trying upload some video but having technical difficulties. Maybe it will work later....
